Introduction

The Stara Zagora region and Kazanlak area are rich in history and cultural attractions as well as offering beautiful scenery and many sporting facilities and mineral spa resorts. You can visit Roman ruins, Neolithic houses, Shipka Monument and Thracian King Tombs, or walk or cycle the numerous mountain trails, go fishing, sailing and wind-surfing in the summer and skiing in the winter. You can visit Stara Zagora Mineral spa resort, Yagoda mineral spa pool or Pavel Banya for massages, treatments and soak in the mineral pools, world renowned for their healing properties.

By staying in a fully renovated village house you get all the creature comforts of home and modern living but at the same time can experience life in a typical Bulgarian village; watch the goats wander home early evening, BBQs on peaceful summer nights, sit round the open fire or wood burning stove (Pechka) in the winter and generally unwind and get away from it all. Yet you are still only a 15 to 20 minutes drive from city centre with all amenities like large supermarkets, numerous restaurants, Opera house, museums, fitness centres and so on.

All Bulgarian villages have a basic shop or two and a small cafe. The villagers are lovely and friendly and it is not unusual for them to give you a gift of a cabbage or tomatoes or fruit from their garden.

I moved to this region in October 2006 and thoroughly love it. (You can read more about me and my life in Bulgaria by clicking here) In the summer days are spent around the pool and having BBQs, walking and cycling in the mountains and visiting Lake Koprinka. In the winter, you can go for a days skiing or snowboarding on the local slopes at Buzludzha, visit museums and pass time sampling local dishes in cosy little Mehanas (restaurants).

All my renovated properties are done to a high standard and made to feel homely. And I am on hand to offer any assistance you may need, be it which restaurant to eat in, where to go shopping, what sights you should not miss and generally ensure you have an enjoyable and memorable holiday.

All bedding and towels are provided as well as the basics such as milk, bread, tea bags, coffee, fruit juice and wine and beer. All properties have gardens and terrace areas you can use as well as a BBQ. There is parking by the properties and maps and a welcome pack will be provided.

As well as two fully renovated apartments in a rural villa and a renovated house sleeping 6, I also own a number of other properties that are awaiting renovation. These have the basics such as water and electric but (apart from two) no indoor bathrooms or proper kitchens. I intend to give these a good clean and spruce up and then these will also be available to rent at very low rates to those on a tight budget or wanting to 'camp' out in a village house. These are ideal for those wanting to stay for a longer duration in Bulgaria, possibly while house hunting but need somewhere cheap to use as a base.

The Stara Zagora region is relatively undiscovered by tourists, despite the wealth of historical and cultural attractions and the fantastic scenery of the Balkans and Sredna Gora mountains close by. Why not experience a different kind of holiday and a different area of Bulgaria, away from the noise, over development and over crowded places like Sunny Beach, Golden Sands or Bansko. Days trips to Plovdiv, Veliko Turnovo or Burgas or Sofia are all easily possible from here by car or coach.
